What happens if you miss a payment
An unpaid GuavaHost invoice does not delete your server straight away: you get reminders first, then a suspension that pauses it with your files intact, and only much later a termination.

If you have just noticed a missed renewal, the short version is this. Go to customer.guavahost.com, open Billing & invoices, find the unpaid invoice and click Pay. A suspended server comes back online once it is paid, with everything still on it.
The order things happen in
Here is the sequence, from the invoice being created to the worst case.
- The invoice is created. A few days before your renewal date, GuavaHost generates your next invoice automatically and emails it to you. It also appears in Billing & invoices, and on the Overview page as an Invoice to review.
- The due date arrives. If you have a saved card or PayPal, the charge is attempted automatically and in most cases you never think about it. Automatic renewal with a saved card or PayPal covers how that works.
- A charge fails, or nobody pays it. The invoice stays unpaid and is marked Overdue in the list. Your server keeps running at this point. Nothing is suspended the instant a charge bounces, which is the whole point: cards expire, banks ask for confirmation, and you get room to sort it out.
- Payment reminders go out. These go to the email on your account, which is why keeping that address current under Account settings matters more than it sounds.
- The server is suspended. If the invoice stays overdue, the server is suspended. It stops and nobody can connect, but it is paused, not deleted. Your world, your plugins, your configs and your backups are all still there.
- Eventually, termination. A service left suspended and unpaid well past its due date is terminated, and termination deletes the server and its files. This is the only step you cannot undo, and it is a long way down the road from a single missed charge.
We do not publish a day count for each step, because it is handled per account and the team has discretion. Treat the reminder emails as your clock: once they start, deal with it, and do not wait to find out how long you have.
Where to see what is actually owed
- Sign in at customer.guavahost.com.
- Open Billing & invoices. Every invoice is listed with its issue date, due date, total and status.
- Use the Unpaid filter to cut the list down to what needs paying. Overdue ones are marked Overdue.
- Click View invoice to see the line items, so you know which server and which period it covers.
A server with an invoice due also shows a notice on its own pages, with a Pay the invoice button that takes you straight there. And if the server itself looks dead and you are not sure why, check this page before you start debugging: a suspension looks a lot like a crash from the outside.
Paying a late invoice
Nothing special is needed. A late invoice is paid exactly like an on time one.
- Open Billing & invoices and click View invoice on the overdue one.
- Click Pay. The button shows the amount.
- Your saved payment method is tried first. If nothing is charged, a Choose how to pay form opens and you pick Card & wallets or PayPal.
- Pay it. The card you just paid with becomes the card used for future renewals, so this is also the fix for an expired card.
A suspended server is unsuspended once the invoice is paid. It does not usually need you to do anything else, though it is worth opening My servers, clicking Manage and checking the Console to confirm it has actually started, and pressing Start if it is sitting idle.
If it is paid and still suspended after a short wait, contact support from guavahost.com/support with the invoice number. Our team is online 24/7 and can clear it manually.
If you need more time
Ask, before the suspension rather than after. Contact support from guavahost.com/support or in our Discord at discord.gg/GuavaHost, say which invoice it is and roughly when you can pay, and the team will tell you what is possible. Silence is the thing that hurts you here, because the automated sequence carries on regardless.
Some things worth knowing while you are deciding:
- Downgrading is cheaper than losing the server. If the plan is simply too big, Change plan in Manage plan lowers your RAM and the change is prorated, so you only pay for the time you used at each level. Upgrading or downgrading your plan has the steps and helps you pick a size you will not regret.
- Paying less often can help. Billing cycle in the same window shows the exact price for a longer cycle before anything changes.
- Cancelling at the end of the period is not the same as missing a payment. It keeps what you have paid for and simply does not renew, with no suspension and no overdue invoice. See How to cancel a server, or Can you pause a server instead of cancelling? if you are hoping to come back later.
Protect your files either way
Whatever you decide, get a copy of your world off the server while you still can. Open Backups in the server menu, click Create backup, wait for Ready, then click Download. That file on your own computer survives a suspension, a termination and a cancellation, and it is what lets you start again later without losing years of building. Backups: creating, restoring and scheduling covers it properly, including the off-site option worth having if the server really matters.
A suspended server still has its backups, so you can do this during a suspension too, but do not leave it until the termination stage.
Common questions
Does a suspended server lose my world?
No. Suspension pauses the server and blocks connections, but the files stay exactly as they were. Paying the overdue invoice brings it back with your world, plugins and settings intact.
How long do I have before my server is deleted?
There is no published figure, because it is handled case by case, but termination comes a long way after the first missed charge and only after reminders and a suspension. Do not test it: pay or talk to support as soon as you see a reminder.
Will one failed card charge suspend my server immediately?
No. A failed charge leaves the invoice unpaid and triggers reminders, and your server keeps running while you fix the payment method. Paying the invoice with a working card both clears it and sets that card for future renewals.
Can I get my server back after it has been terminated?
Once a service is terminated the server and its files are gone, so there is nothing to restore in the panel. If you downloaded a backup earlier you can order a new server and upload it, which is why a copy on your own computer is worth the five minutes.
