RuneScape: Dragonwilds has two levels of control, and both are set in Startup settings on your server's Settings tab: paste your in-game Player ID into Owner ID to become the owner, and set Admin Password so you and your moderators can open Server Management in game. The owner can ban and unban anybody, online or not; an admin can only ban players who are online at the time.
Both are set in Startup settings on your server's Settings tab. To get there, sign in at customer.guavahost.com, open My servers and click Manage on your Dragonwilds server. Getting around your new control panel covers the rest of the panel.
Owner, set by your Player ID
The owner is whoever the Owner ID setting names. Jagex lists it as required. A new server is created with the placeholder CHANGEME in that field so that it can boot, but until you replace it with your own Player ID, nobody who plays on the server is the owner.
- Launch Dragonwilds and open the Settings menu.
- Your Player ID is at the bottom of that screen. Copy it.
- In the control panel, open your server, go to the Settings tab and find Startup settings.
- Paste it into Owner ID, replacing
CHANGEME, and click Save next to it. - Press Restart at the top of the server page.
Every time the server starts, the panel writes the startup settings into the game's config file, DedicatedServer.ini. That makes Startup settings the place to change them. If you edit the same line in the file instead, the panel puts the startup value back on the next start.
An owner can ban and unban anybody, whether they are online at the time or not. There is one owner per server.
Admins, set by password
Anyone who knows the admin password can become an admin.
- In Startup settings on the Settings tab, set Admin Password to something only you and your moderators know, then click Save next to it. The panel will not accept an empty value here.
- Press Restart at the top of the server page.
- In game, open the pause menu, go to its settings and find the Server Management tab.
- Enter the password.
Admins can ban players who are online at that moment. They cannot ban someone who is offline, and they cannot unban anybody. That is the practical difference from being the owner.
Change the placeholder passwords
A new server starts with CHANGEME as both the Admin Password and the Server Password (the password players type to join the world). Anybody could guess that, so change both before you invite anyone. It takes a minute and it is the single most useful thing you can do for your server's security.
Use two different values. The server password goes to everyone who plays; the admin password only to the people you trust to moderate. There is more on the join password in Setting a password on your Dragonwilds server.
Losing access
Admin access comes from knowing the password, so changing Admin Password and restarting is the intended way to remove a moderator. Anyone who only knew the old one can no longer get into Server Management.
If you lose the owner's Player ID, or want to hand the server to someone else, put a different Player ID into Owner ID in Startup settings, save it and restart. Nothing in the world is affected.
Letting a friend manage the server itself
Owner and admin are in-game roles. If you want a friend to be able to restart the server, change these settings or take backups without using your login, invite them on the People page instead (under More in the server menu). Giving a friend access with sub-users walks through it.
