Backing Up and Restoring a Dragonwilds World
Dragonwilds worlds take real hours to build. Backups from the panel take seconds, and restoring one puts your world back exactly as it was.

Everything here happens in your control panel. Sign in at customer.guavahost.com, open My servers and click Manage on your Dragonwilds server to land on it.
Take one now
- Open your server and go to the Backups page in the server menu.
- Click Create backup.
- Give it a name you will recognise later, such as "before dragon attempt" (the name is optional), and click Create backup again to start it.
- Wait for it to show as Ready in the list.
A backup captures the whole server: the world, the config, everything in your files. It runs while the server is up, though a backup taken with the server stopped is the cleanest one you can get.
Schedule them
The Scheduled tasks page can take a backup on a timer.
- Open Scheduled tasks in the server menu. The Back up every week starter sets up a weekly one in one click.
- For a nightly one instead, click New schedule, name it, for example "Nightly backup", choose Daily under How often and set the time (4:00 am, say).
- Leave Skip if the server is offline unticked, so backups still happen while the server is off.
- Under What should it do?, choose Take a backup, then click Create schedule.
A nightly one, plus a manual one before anything risky, covers almost every way an evening goes wrong. Your plan has a set number of backup slots, shown as Backup slots on the Backups page. When they are full, a scheduled backup replaces the oldest unlocked one, but a new manual backup cannot be made until you delete an old one. Lock any backup you never want replaced, and clear out the ones you no longer need now and then. Backups: creating, restoring and scheduling has the full detail.
Restore one
- Open Backups and find the one you want.
- Click Restore next to it.
- Choose what happens to files added since that backup: Keep them (recommended) or Also delete files added since this backup, then click Restore backup.
- The server restarts as part of the restore. Wait for it to finish, then check the world in game before anyone else joins.
Restoring replaces the current server files with the ones in the backup. Anything built since that backup is gone, which is the point, but it is worth saying out loud before you press it. If you are not completely sure, take a fresh backup of the current state first so you can change your mind.
Good moments for a manual backup
- Before a reinstall or a game update.
- Before editing
DedicatedServer.iniby hand. - Before changing World Name in Startup settings, since pointing at a name that does not exist generates a fresh world.
- After a session where your group built something they would be upset to lose.
Keeping a copy off the server
Your worlds live in RSDragonwilds/Saved/SaveGames/ and your settings in RSDragonwilds/Saved/Config/. Those two folders are what matter for a full restore. There are two ways to get a copy onto your own machine:
- Click Download next to a finished backup on the Backups page.
- Connect over SFTP with the details under Connection details on the Settings tab and copy the
RSDragonwilds/Saved/folders across. Uploading files with SFTP shows how to set that up in FileZilla or WinSCP.
A copy that is not on the server is the one that survives the kind of mistake backups cannot help with, like deleting the wrong backup.
The backups on the Backups page are quick backups, kept on the same machine as your server, which makes them perfect right before a risky change. If your world is one you can't afford to lose, Daily Off-site Backups copy the whole server to separate cloud storage every day and keep the last 7, so a problem with the machine itself can't take them with it.
