How to connect to your Hytale server

Copy the IP and port from the top of your panel, then add them in Hytale under Servers. Always include the port, since yours is not the default.

To join your Hytale server, copy the IP and port from the top of your GuavaHost panel and enter them in Hytale under Servers. The one thing to get right is the port: Hytale assumes 5520 if you leave it out, and your server uses its own port instead.

Find your server address

  1. Sign in at guavahost.com/account and click Game Panel on your Hytale service.
  2. At the top of the server view you will see an address made of two parts separated by a colon, for example 203.0.113.10:5105. The part before the colon is the IP, and the part after is the port.
  3. Copy the whole thing, port included.

Hytale's default port is 5520, but GuavaHost gives every server its own port, so yours will almost always be a different number. You can double check it on the Network tab. For more on reading the address, see Finding your server IP and port.

Make sure the server is ready

Before anyone tries to join, check two things on the Console tab:

  • The server is running. Each start begins with an update check, and right after a Hytale patch it downloads the new build first, so give it a moment.
  • The server is authenticated. A brand new server has to be approved with your Hytale account before players can join. If you have not done that yet, follow Start your Hytale server and authenticate it first.

Join from the Hytale client

  1. Launch Hytale and sign in.
  2. Click Servers on the main menu.
  3. Choose Direct Connect to join once, or Add Server to save it to your list.
  4. Enter the full address with the port, for example 203.0.113.10:5105. If you are adding it, give it a name you will recognize.
  5. Connect. A saved server appears in your list, and you can join it from there any time.

If you set a password in your server's config.json, players are asked for it when they join. Hytale server settings, operators and whitelist covers setting one.

Sharing it with friends

Send friends the full IP:port exactly as the panel shows it. The most common reason a friend cannot connect is that they typed the IP without the port. If you only want certain people on the server, turn on the whitelist rather than relying on nobody finding the address. The settings guide linked above shows how.

If you cannot connect

Work through these in order. Most problems are one of the first three.

  1. The port is missing or wrong. Check you entered IP:port, not just the IP, and that the port matches the panel.
  2. The server is not authenticated. Look in the Console for a warning that no server tokens are configured. If you see it, run /auth login device and approve it, then /auth persistence Encrypted.
  3. The server is still starting or updating. Wait until the console has finished booting, then try again.
  4. Your game and the server are on different versions. Players need a game version that matches the server. After a Hytale patch, update your game through the launcher. If you switched the server's Patchline to pre-release on the Startup tab, players need the pre-release build too.
  5. The whitelist is on. If you enabled it, a player who is not on the list is turned away. Add them with /whitelist add <name> in the console.
  6. Your network blocks it. Hytale connects over QUIC, a fast connection method that runs on UDP. GuavaHost opens your server's port for you, so there is no port forwarding to do on our side, but some school, work and public networks block this kind of traffic. If one player cannot connect while others can, have them try another network, such as a phone hotspot, to rule it out.

If you can join but it feels laggy, that is a different problem. Distance to the server matters a lot, so see Choosing a server location and Lag vs ping.

Server list sites and Source Query

Your server comes with the Source Query plugin switched on (the Install Source Query plugin option on the Startup tab). It lets third-party server list sites read your player count and server name. You do not need it to play. If a list site asks you for a query port and cannot reach your server, open a ticket and we will check which port your server can answer on.
