Every GuavaHost server includes free, always-on DDoS protection that filters flood attacks aimed at knocking your server offline, but it cannot stop in-game griefing, stolen passwords, or a player who is simply cheating.
What a DDoS attack is
DDoS stands for distributed denial of service. In plain terms, an attacker floods your server's connection with a huge amount of junk traffic from many sources at once, trying to overwhelm it so real players cannot get through. Think of it as thousands of fake cars jamming the road so your actual guests cannot reach the door. It targets the network, not your game files.
What GuavaHost protection does
The protection is built in and needs no setup on your part:
- It is always on, from the moment your server goes live.
- It sits at the network edge and filters out attack traffic before it reaches your server, so legitimate players keep connecting.
- It covers every server location we offer, including the United States, Europe, the United Kingdom, Poland, Australia, and South America (Miami node).
- It applies to every game we host, not just one.
Because it runs automatically, there is nothing to enable in your panel and no add-on to buy.
What it does NOT stop
This is the part worth understanding, because DDoS protection is often blamed for problems it was never meant to solve. It does not stop:
- In-game griefing. A player who joins normally and destroys builds is not an attack on the network, so filtering cannot see it. Use a whitelist and permissions instead.
- Stolen or shared passwords. If someone logs into your panel or game account with the real password, that is a login, not a flood.
- Cheaters and hackers in-game. Fly hacks, x-ray, and killaura are client-side cheating. An anti-cheat plugin is the right tool.
- Plugin or mod exploits. A vulnerable plugin is a software issue on your server, not network traffic. Keep plugins updated.
- Your own home internet. If your personal connection is being attacked or is just slow, that is separate from your server.
If you think you are under attack
- Check the Console tab. If the server is running normally but nobody can connect, a network issue is plausible.
- Ask whether one player lags (their ping) or everyone drops at once (more likely network-wide).
- Note the time and what you were seeing.
- Open a support ticket or ask in Discord so the team can check the protection logs for your node.
Layer your own security
DDoS protection guards the front gate, but the rest of your security is yours to set up. Use a whitelist and sensible permissions to stop griefers, keep a strong unique password on your panel account, and take regular snapshots on the Backups tab so any damage can be undone. Together those cover the gaps that network filtering cannot.
