How Much RAM Does a Dragonwilds Server Need?

Jagex publishes the formula: 2 GB plus 1 GB for each player. A dedicated server holds up to six players, so a full one wants 8 GB.

The short answer

  • Two players: 4 GB. This is our starting plan.
  • Four players: 6 GB.
  • Six players, the maximum a dedicated server supports: 8 GB.

That is not a rule of thumb we invented. It comes straight from Jagex's own dedicated server guide, and it is unusually precise for a survival game, so you can size your plan with confidence instead of guessing.

Why it scales per player

Dragonwilds is an Unreal Engine game with a persistent, editable world. Each connected player has their own position, inventory, skills and a slice of the world loaded around them, and the server holds all of it at once. Every extra person is another slice, which is why the cost per player is so predictable.

Picking a tier

Buy for the group you actually play with, not the group you hope for. Most Dragonwilds groups are two to four people, and 4 GB or 6 GB covers that comfortably. If you are running a server for a community that fills all six slots, go straight to 8 GB, because a server that runs out of memory does not slow down gracefully.

Check what you are using

The Usage card on your server's Overview and Console tabs shows live memory use as RAM, with a usage history chart. Watch it with a normal number of people online. If it sits near the limit during play and the console shows slow saves, that is your signal to move up a tier.

Upgrading later

Every plan is configurable, so you are never stuck with the first choice.

  1. Sign in at customer.guavahost.com, open My servers and click Manage on your Dragonwilds server.
  2. Click Manage plan in the server menu, then Change plan.
  3. Pick the RAM you want and click Next step until you reach Check and confirm, which shows what is due today for the rest of your billing period.
  4. Press Confirm and pay (or Confirm change if there is nothing to pay), and complete the payment if you are asked to.
  5. When you see Your new plan is live, press Restart at the top of the server page so it picks up the new memory.

Billing is prorated, so you only pay the difference for the rest of the cycle, and your world, settings and passwords stay exactly as they are. Nothing is wiped and nothing is reinstalled. Upgrading your plan has more on how it works.
