Don't Starve Together: Regenerate or Roll Back a World
Type c_rollback() in the console to undo the last save, or c_regenerateworld() for a brand new map. Both are permanent in game, so take a backup first.

To roll a Don't Starve Together world back, type c_rollback() in the console; to start a completely new map, type c_regenerateworld(). Rollbacks undo the last save (c_rollback(3) undoes three), regenerating throws the map away and keeps your settings, mods and admin list. Both are permanent as far as the game is concerned, so take a GuavaHost backup first.
Where to type the commands
The commands below work in two places:
- In game, from the console (the backtick key), once you are an admin. Making yourself admin shows how.
- In the control panel, on the Console tab of your server. That console is connected to the surface shard, so you do not need to be in the game or on the admin list. Sign in at customer.guavahost.com, open My servers and click Manage on your server to get there.
Rolling back
Don't Starve Together keeps a handful of recent snapshots of your world itself, which is separate from your server backups.
c_rollback()goes back one save.c_rollback(3)goes back three.
The server restarts into the older save. Everything after that point is gone, including on the caves shard, which rolls back with the surface. That is usually what you want after a bad day.
Regenerating
c_regenerateworld() throws the current world away and generates a fresh one. Your settings, your mods and your admin list stay, but the map and everything on it is new.
Do this only when you mean it. There is no undo from inside the game.
Take a server backup first
Both of the above are permanent from the game's point of view. A GuavaHost backup is not.
- Open the Backups page in the server menu.
- Click Create backup and give it a name you will recognise.
- Wait for it to finish, then do whatever you were going to do.
If the rollback goes too far, or the new world turns out to be a bad map, restore the backup and you are back where you started. Restoring replaces the server files: click Restore next to the backup on the Backups page, choose whether to keep files added since, and confirm. The server restarts as part of the restore. Backups: creating, restoring and scheduling has the full steps.
World generation settings
If you regenerate because you want a different kind of world rather than a fresh copy of the same one, set that up before you run the command. World generation settings only take effect when a world is generated.
They live in a worldgenoverride.lua file in each shard's folder, one for the surface and one for the caves:
DoNotStarveTogether/config/server/Master/worldgenoverride.luaDoNotStarveTogether/config/server/Caves/worldgenoverride.lua
Edit them from the Files tab, then regenerate. If one is not there yet, write it on your computer and upload it into that shard's folder with Upload files, since the Files tab has no button for a new, empty file.
Startup settings on the Settings tab also has Surface world generation override and Caves world generation override fields. Each takes a web link to a worldgenoverride.lua, and the server downloads it during installation, but only if that shard does not already have the file. On a server that is already running, editing the files directly is simpler.
When only one shard is wrong
Rolling back or regenerating affects the cluster, not one shard. If you only want a new caves world, the cleanest route is:
- Take a backup.
- Press Stop at the top of the server page.
- In the Files tab, open
DoNotStarveTogether/config/server/Caves/and delete thesavefolder inside it. - Start the server. The caves generate fresh while the surface loads as it was.
