Making Yourself Admin on a Don't Starve Together Server

Admins are listed by Klei user ID in adminlist.txt. Get your ID from the game, add it to the file, restart.

Find your Klei user ID

Your ID looks like KU_AbCdEfGh. The quickest way to find it:

1. Join any Don't Starve Together server, including your own.
2. Press the backtick key to open the console.
3. Type print(TheNet:GetUserID()) and press Enter.
4. Your ID is printed in the console log.

You can also read it off the player list on a server you are already an admin of, or out of the server log after you have connected once.

Add it to the admin list

You edit the file in your control panel. Sign in at customer.guavahost.com, open My servers and click Manage on your Don't Starve Together server.

1. Go to the Files tab and open DoNotStarveTogether/config/server/. This is your cluster folder, the one with cluster.ini in it.
2. Open adminlist.txt. If it is not there, create a plain text file called adminlist.txt on your computer and upload it into this folder with Upload files, because the Files tab has no button for making a new, empty file.
3. Put one Klei ID per line:

KU_AbCdEfGh
KU_IjKlMnOp

1. Click Save, then press Restart at the top of the server page.

The file sits next to cluster.ini, at the cluster level, so one admin list covers both the surface and the caves.

What an admin can do

Admins get the remote console in game and the moderation commands with it. The ones you will actually use:

• c_listallplayers() to see who is on and their user IDs.
• TheNet:Kick("KU_...") to remove someone for now.
• TheNet:Ban("KU_...") to stop them coming back.
• c_save() to force a save before you do anything risky.

You can also type these into the Console tab in the control panel without being in the game at all. That console is connected to the surface shard, so what you type there runs on the server itself.

Banning without the console

There is a blocklist.txt in the same cluster folder that works the same way as the admin list: one Klei ID per line, read at startup. If it is not there, upload a plain text file with that name into the folder from the Files tab, then restart. Useful when the person you want gone is not currently online for you to ban.

Allowing only your friends

whitelist.txt, again in the same folder and again one ID per line. With whitelist_slots set in the [NETWORK] section of cluster.ini, that many slots are held for the people on the list. It is a good fit for a server that is public in the browser but really meant for a group. Don't Starve Together server settings: cluster.ini covers editing that file.

In-game admin versus panel access

Being on adminlist.txt makes someone an admin inside the game. It does not let them manage the server itself. If you want a friend to be able to restart the server, edit files or take backups, invite them on the People page (under More in the server menu). Giving a friend access with sub-users explains the permissions.
