Dragonwilds Server Not Showing or Won't Connect? Fixes

Almost every Dragonwilds connection problem is one of four things: the server is not running, the world name is typed differently, the world is still generating, or a setting changed without a restart.

All the checks below happen in your control panel. Sign in at customer.guavahost.com, open My servers and click Manage on your Dragonwilds server.

Check the server is up

Look at the status at the top of the server page. If it says Offline, press Start and watch the output on the Console tab. If it starts and then stops again, or never gets past loading, skip down to "The server will not start at all".

Check the world name, exactly

Players search the Public tab of the Worlds screen by world name, and that search is case sensitive. Open the Settings tab and, in Startup settings, compare World Name character by character with what your friend is typing. This is the single most common cause.

Give a new server time

The first start of a brand new server generates a world before it is listed. A minute or two is normal, and the console goes quiet during it. Search again once the console settles.

If the search still finds nothing, the server prints a join code on every start, on the Console line that mentions JoinCode. It changes on each restart, but it is a quick way to get a friend in while you work out the search. How to connect to your Dragonwilds server has more.

Restart after changing settings

Dragonwilds reads DedicatedServer.ini when it starts, and the panel writes your Startup settings values into that file at the same moment. If you changed World Name, Server Password, Admin Password or Owner ID and did not restart, the running server is still using the old values. Press Restart at the top of the server page.

Your server is on an older version

When Jagex ships an update, your game updates itself through Steam, but the server does not update on a restart. Until it is updated, players on the new version cannot connect. Updating means a reinstall from the Reinstall server card on the Settings tab, which keeps your world. Keeping your Dragonwilds server updated has the steps.

The server will not start at all

Read the last lines of the Console first. It usually names the problem.

  • You edited DedicatedServer.ini by hand. Undo the edit, or restore the backup you took before it from the Backups page, and try again one change at a time.
  • The console complains about missing game files. A reinstall from the Settings tab downloads them again and leaves your world in place. Take a backup first anyway.
  • You just added a mod. Remove it from RSDragonwilds/Content/Paks/~mods/ and start again. See Installing mods on a Dragonwilds server.

While you are there, make sure Owner ID in Startup settings holds your real Player ID. Jagex lists it as required. The placeholder CHANGEME is only there so a new server can boot. Becoming admin on your Dragonwilds server explains where to find your ID.

If the console shows an error you do not recognise, copy the last twenty lines before asking for help. It usually names the exact setting or file it could not read.

Everyone can join except one person

That is on their end rather than the server's. Have them fully restart the game, check they are on the same game version, and try the search again. Confirm they are entering the server password exactly as it appears in Startup settings.
