Letting Console Players Join Your 7 Days to Die Server

Crossplay works, but only while the server meets every one of its conditions: anti-cheat on, no mods, eight slots or fewer, and a world no bigger than 8192.

Turn on Let console players join on the Server settings page, leave EasyAntiCheat on, keep the server at eight players or fewer with a world no bigger than 8192, and run no mods with their own code. Break any one of those and your server stops appearing for console players, with no error anywhere to say so.

Every condition, and what it costs you

Setting It must be What it costs
Let console players join On Nothing.
EasyAntiCheat On You cannot run mods with their own code.
Let sanctioned accounts in Off Nothing, unless you wanted to allow them.
Maximum players 8 or fewer A smaller server than the plan can run.
Random world size 8192 or less No 10240 map.
Mods XML only, or none No overhaul mods.

The eight slot limit is the one that stings. The game itself will happily run more, and we sell plans with the memory for it, but a server above eight slots drops out of console search. That is the game's rule, not ours.

Set it up

  1. Sign in at customer.guavahost.com, open My servers and click Manage on your 7 Days to Die server.
  2. Open Server settings from the menu.
  3. Under Anti-cheat and crossplay, tick Let console players join, make sure EasyAntiCheat is ticked and Let sanctioned accounts in is not.
  4. Check Maximum players in Startup settings on the Settings tab. It is 8 by default. If you have raised it, bring it back down.
  5. Under World, make sure Random world size is 6144 or 8192.
  6. Click Save, then Restart.

How console players find you

They search for your server by name in the game's own list. They cannot type an address, so the name is the only handle they have, and a server still called "My Game Host" is sharing that name with a crowd. Set something distinctive in Server name on the Server settings page.

If they still cannot see it, one of the six conditions above is not met. That is almost always what it is: the game does not warn you, it simply stops listing the server for consoles.

Crossplay or mods, not both

This is the real decision, and it is worth making deliberately rather than discovering it halfway through a mod install.

  • Keep crossplay and you keep anti-cheat, so you are limited to mods that only change XML. Those are plenty: they cover loot, recipes, zombies, progression and most quality of life changes, and your players need to install nothing at all.
  • Run an overhaul such as Darkness Falls and you turn anti-cheat off, which locks consoles out and means every player installs the same files by hand.

Installing mods explains the difference between the two kinds and how to tell which a mod is before you install it.

Common questions

Can I have nine players and crossplay?

No. Above eight slots the server stops appearing in console search. If you want more players, you are running a PC only server, and that is a perfectly good server: just tell your console friends before you change it.

Do console players need a password?

Only if you set one. They are asked for it the same way a PC player is. If your group is small, a password is the simplest way to keep your eight slots for the people you meant to invite.

Does crossplay change how much RAM I need?

No. Eight console players cost exactly the same as eight PC players. What the limit does mean is that a crossplay server never needs more than our base plan for slots alone, so extra memory is only worth buying for a bigger world or an older save.

My console friend can see the server but cannot join

Check whether you are both on the same version of the game. Consoles update on their own schedule, and a server that has already moved to a new release will refuse a client on the old one. Restarting your server pulls the newest version, which usually lines them up again.
