Errors & Fixes

Look up the exact error your server or game client shows: connection errors, out of memory, version mismatches, EULA and port conflicts, and what to do about each.

  • Fix Palworld "Failed to join session" and connection errors

Palworld gives you two ways to join a server and almost all join failures come from using the wrong one for your platform. Here is which is which.

  • Fix Rust "Disconnected: Steam Auth Timeout"

Steam's authentication service did not answer in time, so the server could not confirm who you are. This is almost never the server, and waiting really is sometimes the fix.

  • Your server stops seconds after starting: reading exit codes

A server that dies within seconds has already told you why. The exit code narrows it down and the five lines above it name the cause.

  • Fix "Exception ticking world" and corrupted chunks

One mob, block or chunk in your world errors every time the server touches it. The crash report gives you its coordinates, and a backup is almost always the cleanest fix.

  • Fix "Mod rejections" and modded version mismatches

Forge, NeoForge and Fabric compare mod lists at the door and refuse a player whose list does not match. The rejection screen names the mods, which is more help than it looks.

  • Fix io.netty.channel.AbstractChannel$AnnotatedConnectException

This long Java class name is just Minecraft's networking library saying it could not connect. The words after the colon are the part that matters.

  • Fix "Address already in use" on a game server

Two things want the same port and only one can have it. The usual causes are an old process that has not finished dying and a plugin quietly claiming a port of its own.

  • Fix "A single server tick took 60.00 seconds" (watchdog crash)

Your server froze solid for a minute, so a safety thread killed it and printed a list of what every thread was doing. That list names your culprit.

  • Fix "You need to agree to the EULA" on a Minecraft server

Your server wrote a file called eula.txt and stopped until you change one word in it. This takes about twenty seconds in the panel.

  • Fix "java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: Java heap space"

Your Java server asked for more memory than it was allowed to use and gave up. More RAM is sometimes the answer and sometimes exactly the wrong one.

    6 min read · minecraft, java, memory · Updated Oct 21, 2026

  • Fix "Outdated server!" and "Outdated client!" in Minecraft

These two messages tell you the server and the player are on different Minecraft versions, and the message itself tells you which way round. Here is how to read it and what to change.

  • Fix "Failed to login: Invalid session" in Minecraft

Invalid session is an account problem, not a server problem. Restarting the launcher fixes it most of the time, and here is what to do when it does not.

  • Fix "Connection timed out" when joining a Minecraft server

A timeout means nothing answered your client at all. Work down this checklist in order and you will find which of the five usual causes you have.

    6 min read · minecraft, java, connection · Updated Oct 21, 2026

  • Fix "Internal Exception: java.io.IOException" in Minecraft

This error means the connection between a player's client and your Minecraft server broke mid-message. Here is how to tell a bad home connection from a plugin, a proxy or a restart.

About these guides

Game servers tend to tell you what is wrong, but in the words of whatever crashed: a Java stack trace, a Steam auth message, a line in a log file. The guides here are organised by the message you can see, so you can search for the text on your screen and get the cause rather than a list of things to try.

Each one explains what the error actually means, which side it comes from (your server, your own connection, or the game's own services), and the shortest way to clear it. If the message you have is not here, the logs guide in Hosting Basics shows you how to find the real error behind a generic one, and our team will read a log with you in Discord.
