How to find your Terraria server's IP and port in the panel, add them in the game, and fix the usual reasons a connection fails.
The panel is the web control panel for your server, based on Pterodactyl. It is where you find the details you need to connect. Your GuavaHost server is live within seconds of ordering, so once the world finishes generating you can jump straight in.
Find your connect address
- Log in at guavahost.com/account and open the Game Panel, then open your server.
- Look at the top of the server view. Your connect address is shown as an IP and a port, for example 123.45.67.89:7777.
- The part before the colon is the IP. The part after the colon is the port. Terraria's default port is 7777, but GuavaHost gives each server its own port, so use exactly what the panel shows. You can also confirm it on the Network tab.
Join from the Terraria menu
- Launch Terraria and click Multiplayer, then Join via IP.
- Pick the character (your player) you want to play as.
- In the address box, type the IP from the panel, for example 123.45.67.89.
- When it asks for the port, enter the exact port from the panel, for example 7777.
- If the server has a join password set, type it in. If not, leave it blank.
- Click the accept button and wait for the world to load you in.
Make sure the server is actually up
Open the Console tab to see the live log. Watch it start, and wait for the line that says the server is listening or that the world has loaded before you try to connect. On a fresh server, generating a large world can take a little while, so give it a moment.
If the world is not the one you expect, the server may have autocreated a new one. You control which world loads through serverconfig.txt, which you can open on the Files tab.
Match your game version
Your Terraria game version must match the version your server is running. If Steam has updated your copy of Terraria but the server is on an older build (or the other way around), you will not be able to connect. Check the server's version on the Startup tab, and make sure your game is on the same version before trying again.
Troubleshooting
- Timeout or "Lost connection": the IP or port is usually wrong. Copy them again straight from the top of the server view, and double check you entered the port when the game asked for it.
- It keeps asking for a password: the password you typed does not match password= in serverconfig.txt. Open that file on the Files tab to check it, or clear it to remove the password, then restart.
- "Server is full": raise maxplayers in serverconfig.txt and restart from the Console tab.
- Nothing happens right after ordering: the world may still be generating. Open the Console tab and wait for the ready line.
- Version error: set your Terraria to the same version shown on the Startup tab.
