How to Connect to Your 7 Days to Die Server

Your address is the IP and port on the server page. In the game, open Join a Game, switch to Connect to IP, and type it in. Favourites keep it for next time.

Copy the IP and port from your server page, open 7 Days to Die, choose Join a Game, click Connect to IP, and enter them. You can also search for the server by name in the public list, but typing the address is faster and it works even while the server is not listed yet.

Get your address

  1. Sign in at customer.guavahost.com, open My servers and click Manage on your 7 Days to Die server.
  2. The address is at the top of the page, next to the server name. Click it to copy it.

It looks like 149.202.64.146:27500. The part before the colon is the IP and the part after it is the port. Your port will not be 26900, the number most guides on the internet use, and that is normal: every server here gets its own.

Join from the game

  1. Start 7 Days to Die and click Join a Game.
  2. Click Connect to IP at the bottom of the window.
  3. Put the IP in the first box and the port in the second one, then click Connect.
  4. If you set a password, the game asks for it here.

The first join downloads the world from the server, which takes a minute or two on a fresh map and longer on a big one. That is a one-off: after that the game only fetches what has changed.

Save it as a favourite

Once you are in, press Escape, open the server browser's Favourites tab and your server will be there. Your group should do the same, so nobody has to keep the address to hand.

Find it in the public list instead

Your server is public by default, so it also appears in Join a Game if you search its name. Set the name on the Server settings page in the panel so it is something searchable: a server still called "My Game Host" is sharing that name with a few hundred others.

If the server is running and you cannot find it by name, the server list is the problem, not the server. Try the address first, and if that works, read 7 Days to Die server not showing or will not connect.

Nothing happens when you connect

Three things cause almost all of it.

  • The server has not finished starting. Open the Console tab in the panel. 7 Days to Die generates or loads the world before it accepts anybody, which takes a few minutes on a new random map. Wait for the console to settle.
  • You and the server are on different versions of the game. 7 Days to Die will not let a client join a server on another build. Steam updates your game automatically; your server updates itself each time it starts, so restarting it is usually the fix.
  • A port is missing. Your server needs four ports, not one, and three of them are set up for you here. If you have changed ports yourself, read the four ports a 7 Days to Die server uses.

Common questions

Why is my port not 26900?

26900 is the game's default, and it is what you would use at home. On a shared machine every server needs its own address, so yours is given a port from a block we keep for this game. Use the port shown on your server page and ignore the number in guides written for a home server.

Can console players join my server?

Yes, but only while the server is set up for crossplay, which puts some limits on it. The full list of requirements, and what each one costs you, is in letting console players join.

Do my friends need any mods or files?

Not for a normal server. If you install mods that are only XML, the server sends them to your players automatically and nobody has to do anything. Mods with their own code are different, and installing mods explains which is which.
