How to Connect to Your Necesse Server

Connecting to your GuavaHost Necesse server takes about a minute: grab the server address from your panel, open Necesse, pick a character, and join by IP.

Connecting to your GuavaHost Necesse server takes about a minute: grab the server address from your panel, open Necesse, pick a character, and join by IP.

Find your connect address

Your connect address is the IP and port shown at the top of your server's page in the GuavaHost panel. Necesse's default port is 14159, but the panel can assign a different one, so always copy the exact address shown at the top rather than assuming a number. The Network tab lists the same allocation if you want to double-check the port.

Before you try to join, open the Console tab and confirm the server is running. When Necesse is ready you will see log lines showing the world has loaded and the server is listening. If the console is blank or the server is stopped, press Start and wait a few seconds. GuavaHost servers set up instantly, so a fresh order is usually live within seconds of ordering.

Join from the Necesse main menu

  • Launch Necesse from Steam and wait for the main menu.
  • Click Play.
  • Select an existing character or create a new one. Necesse ties your inventory to your character rather than to the world, so you can bring the same character to any server.
  • On the world list screen, choose Join server, the option that lets you type a server address.
  • Enter your address in the IP:port format, for example 123.45.67.89:14159.
  • If you set a server password, type it when prompted.
  • Connect and wait for the world to stream in.

Once you load in, your character appears at the world spawn. Friends join the exact same way with the same address.

Public or private

If you want an open server, leave the password blank. To keep it private, set a password in your Startup variables or the server.cfg file, restart the server, and share it only with people you want on. A passworded server uses the same connect address; the password prompt simply appears after you connect.

If you cannot connect

  • Re-copy the address from the panel top bar. One wrong digit or the wrong port will fail the connection.
  • Make sure the server is fully started. Watch the Console for the world-loaded and listening lines before you join.
  • Check that your game version matches the server. If Necesse updated on Steam, update your server from the Startup tab and restart, then try again.
  • If it worked before and suddenly will not, restart the server from the panel and reconnect.
  • You do not need to open ports or change your firewall. Every GuavaHost server includes free DDoS protection and is reachable on its public address out of the box.

Right after a Necesse update, a version mismatch between your game and the server is the single most common reason a join fails, so line up both sides first.
